Tuesday's beginning started under the shadow of yesterdays mess. The one Michael continued to dig out from under. Crystal had listened to his shortened story of stepping into a relationship with God and then left soon after with no more questions or arm touching. Thank the Lord.

And Hanna handled his recounting of dinner with Crystal far better than Steven had. Of course, Steven's rendition had Crystal pawing all over him and showing more skin than the real version.

Earlier this morning, he'd set Steven, Clint, and Lee straight on what happened. Two of the three acted like they believed him. But even Lee shot him a few smirks.

And now he had to face an SSA with a reputation for fire breathing and then spend most of his day in the Strategic Information and Operations Center. Not the friendliest place on earth.

More like a den of lions roaring at terrorist threats on American soil.

He walked into the large briefing room with stadium seating and tried to focus, to find his fit. Hard to do when huge monitors and flat panel TVs blared news feeds from every corner of the room.

“You'll get used to it.” A young, bald police officer in the back row extended a hand. “Brett Hamilton.”

Michael hated the bald-headed reminder of Clint's cancer. But that wasn't Hamilton's fault. “Michael Parker.” He adjusted his red power tie and took the only empty seat in the room, the one right next to Hamilton.

“Well, now that our last agent is in place, we'll begin.” Sonja Foster in the flesh. All six feet of tanned muscles poured into a gray suit with her fire-breathing apparatus covered in red lipstick.

Clint had warned him. No use now hoping the rumors were inflated.

“My task force has kept tabs on various groups of domestic terrorists. The fastest growing faction has been known as One Pure Nation ever since the parent organization dissolved with the arrest and incarceration of their leadership. They're a small and, up until recent months, dormant group. But they're now being credited with many random acts of racial violence.”

A skinny uniformed officer took copious notes before raising her hand. “This would include the killing of two Asian females in Baltimore Harbor September seventeenth and the four simultaneous attacks this past Saturday, correct?”

“Yes, Officer Tanner. That is correct.” Foster clicked through a PowerPoint presentation on the white supremacist groups now considered higher priority domestic terrorists.

“Various pockets of the most active members of One Pure Nation and another religious-sounding group have met in small contingents in three major cities. Chicago, Miami, and Indianapolis. Membership growth has been slow until the last few months. One Pure Nation's newfound fame is drawing interest. But no intel points to any major players in leadership positions.”

A tall blond man in a sharp suit raised his hand and stood. “Even with all this information, we still have no hard evidence linking One Pure Nation members to the recent shootings? Ballistics? Eyewitnesses? Web sites? Nothing?”

Foster straightened. “We know McMillan rifles were utilized in two of the recent shootings.
